Energy Disputes and International Arbitration

Security of Supply, Energy Transition and Regulatory Risk in Greece and Europe

Europe's energy sector is undergoing structural transformation. The war in Ukraine, the acceleration of decarbonisation policies under the European Green Deal, the expansion of LNG infrastructure and interconnectors, and the state intervention in energy markets are reshaping the field and give rise to new commercial risks and potential disputes.

In the light of recent developments, Greece occupies a pivotal position as an emerging LNG and gas hub in the Eastern Mediterranean; as a gateway for energy interconnectors to the Balkans and Central Europe; as a rapidly expanding renewables market; and as a jurisdiction balancing EU regulatory obligations with national energy strategy.

Energy disputes increasingly combine elements of commercial arbitration, investment arbitration and regulatory litigation. They frequently involve states, state-owned entities and issues of public interest. The conference brings together leading practitioners, arbitrators, in-house counsel and academics to address the evolving dispute landscape in the energy sector and the procedural and strategic challenges arising from Europe's energy transition].
